As our TOTEM product was a combination of all our ideas and inspiration, we decided to explore the posters and packaging proposals from individual ones to show how multi-decipline and skill-ranged we were as a collaborative group.
My poster was designed for the workplace and, like our video, tells a story. We found the workplace can be a stressful location where adults are forced to keep their inhabitions up, but we are seeing more and more establishments such as Google providing their employees with toys and games to create a fun atmosphere. We want TOTEM to be a toy that can provide moments of joy as adults experience feelings associated with childhood were their problems did not exist. I utilized the same colours we have used throughout the TOTEM them as well as the shapes on Illustrator. The strong lined drawings were created in a Solidworks orthographic drawing which I then created into a vector. I wanted to create a moving poster as movement was such a key theme of TOTEM while creating intrigue for the reader than if it was just still.
Phoebe, Najla and I created a box inspired by Constructivism in addition to continuing the themes of nostalgia through materials such as string, paper and wood. We would include the Constructivism inspired poster on front with engraved symbols on the sides. We used jigsaw-like grooves to slot together and included a hole at the top to expose some of the handle. The top and back piece could be removed to expose TOTEM with all the pieces decorated on the spinner.
Najla created a further concept that was slick and stylish, acting almost as a frame to the seven components. Whereas the first concept has parts protruding, Najla's concept would be much easier to ship with no damage. We considered using the first concept to display in stores, while the second could be for online purchase or to send exclusively to business companies for trial.
Our collaborative project has helped us utilize individuals skills to create a concept we are all proud to say we had a part in designing.
