As my system is built for a pannier, I wanted it to follow the pannier storage options and aesthetic a lot of the current rhetoric have to offer, but with a twist. Instead of just 'sticking on' some pannier storage I wanted to make it tranform for different purposes. The two I currently have in mind are the pannier storage for when the carrier is on the bike, and handles for when it is being carrier around. I want the transition from handles to storage to be effortless and natural so it is a relevant to the form of both bike and carrier. I first attempted this concept with a small maket, followed by a paper addition to my sketch model.
All cat owners will know that when it comes to boxes of any sort, shape or material, a cat will want to get into it. Therefore, adding a box-like element to my currently flat open carry case come bed area may encourage the cat to sit inside of the carrier, in addition to a space they can sit in the veterinary.
Before I applied this new addition, I decided to add on to my 1:1 rough sketch model to see how it looked in comparison to my original shape. I found adding the bottom element introduced a new flat plane that I could attach the lock onto.
I am currently deliberating between adding the hinge on the side door at the bottom as I had originally, or from the top and making use of this new flat plane I have created as a new place for the lock.

I'm not a fan of plastics, but I understand their practicality. However, sustainability wise, they are not and so if I am making a product that will most likely be commonly made from non-renewable plastics, I will need to find 'better'

As I understand each cat is different, I want to make sure I test with a few different cats of different breeds, sizes and personalities.
lilli, bluebell & tallulah
Currently I am using larger She cats but I am also hoping to test with some Toms too as they differ in personalities and are commonly larger.
I decided in order to create my Solidworks model, I first needed to see if all the dimensions were correct, in addition to seeing a cat's reaction to the product and their sizing beside it. At first I just made the 'train tunnel' shape, in the correct dimensions with one side opened.
Lilli, my cat, was in-interested, even with her favourite toys and blanket in. However, she was very interested in the cardboard I was using to make the sketch model. She liked having a larger surface area that she could lie on and explore.
So I decided to add on one of the doors to show her what it would be like with the door down thus giving her more room to lie down.
She was much more interested and liked having room to stand up and move around. This made me realise that this product will need to be versatile as it will need to suit a range of people, cats and houses. So I am going to keep the folding down doors as I think it gives more options to adapt with what the cat wants and what the house can fit.
