The banana is the humble fruit that can be found year-round in your local supermarket offering 'the right about of carbs, a feast of fib[re] and powerful potassium' (WebMD, n.d.) to potentially lower the risk of stoke and help muscles work better. The banana is very versatile as it can be eaten on its own, in a sandwich or a smoothie but recently I have been seeing even more food innovation using this everyday fruit in examples such as banana chips and even a gluten free alternative to flour.

Pros: 'Banana fiber is a very strong fiber and very lightweight. This 100 % biodegradable material is made of the residual material of the banana plant....This banana fiber carpet has a very soft feeling and a shiny brown colour.' (Materia, 2015)
Cons: Not fully utilized - 'Currently in industry, it is normally used for making ropes or braided mats, but in the majority of cases the fibers are just dumped. Unfairly, because banana fiber is particularly suitable for rugged and natural design uses.' (Materia, 2015)
